Calm Your Heart & Accelerate Your Creativity [SOLD OUT]
Time Frame: Thursday, 9-5 pm Facilitator:Allen Arnold Skill Level: All levels welcome
Being successful in your creativity was never meant to leave you exhausted. It's supposed to bring life to you, as the artist, and to those who experience your offerings. But we've come to believe the lie that time is short and we're behind. So we search for the magic formula for success as we burn the candle at both ends—cranking out projects that we no longer are passionate about, comparing ourselves to others, and growing weary of non-stop self-promotion. But it isn't sustainable. We burn bright...only to burn out.
We don't need you exhausted. We need you present, rested, and creative. That's how art with an eternal spark is born.
Creativity coach, story veteran, and acclaimed author Allen Arnold reveals a better way to step fully into your calling. He's helped thousands in his roles as a Fiction publisher, marketing executive, creativity coach, and keynote speaker. Along the way, he's discovered a counter-intuitive approach to increase creativity and reduce stress. In this workshop, he'll show how to:
puruse the Genesis 1 path to pursuing your God-given creativity
free yourself from being stuck in your artisan dreams and goals
rediscover the power (it's not what you think!) of your creativity
maximize your truest voice through how you see and shape your art
gain greater clarity on what your customers want next; and
benefit from the hidden connection between restoration and imagination.
So stay calm...and accelerate your creativity!
Divine Self Image- Portraiture with Gold Leaf ( 2 Day Class)
Time Frame: Thursday - Friday, 9-5 pm Facilitator: Jacob Daniels Skill Level: All Levels Welcome
One of the most fundamental matters of life is how we view ourselves. How do you feel about yourself, your life, your art? More importantly how do you think God perceives you? These are fundamental questions that we all have to navigate, sometimes on a regular basis. In this two day workshop we are going to be exploring this idea through art, specifically self portraiture, gold leafing, and painting. Before you get terrified and run away, let me tell you it is not as complicated as you may think. I believe this will be a freeing process for many as we will experience the grace of God and how he sees us by doing this process.
Day 1 I always like to start off my classes with a "warmup" to shake off the nervousness and the expectation of "creating a masterpiece". Let me tell you, you will not. What I will do is start to give you tools and direction that will help you navigate a piece of artwork to a pleasing completion. When creating a piece of art there will always be "roadblocks". You can either clam up, turn around, or move forward; these tools will help you move forward. This warmup will most likely entail a blind contour drawing.
Next I will go over techniques to draw the human head/face. I don't expect everybody's portrait to be completely realistic. There can be some abstraction in this process as well. I will help you with proportion, and how to develop a drawing slowly to make sure all the essential steps are covered. More times than not the temptation is to move too quickly.
I do not necessarily prefer the straight on looking at the viewer portrait. I will actually encourage to do a more artistic approach either from a silhouetted view or something similar. I will explain this more in the class.
Next we will begin to go over the history and process of gold leafing and how to implement that in our portrait drawing to prepare for painting. I have really enjoyed implementing golf leaf into my work and would like to share it with you.
Day 2 This day will be more focused on painting and further developing our portrait. I have previously enjoyed introducing many to oil paints. For many students there has been great joy (naturally some frustration), and wonderful learning when trying a new medium. I will be bringing these as part of the materials fee but students are welcome to bring some acrylic paints if they prefer. We will be exploring how to develop a painting (slowly) and how to not over complicate it, muddy it up, and to know when to quit. This is very hard to discern for ALL artists even myself. We will briefly go over like I do in all my classes composition, color theory, brushwork, etc.
I have greatly enjoyed teaching at GOA in the past and look forward to the times spent with you all. We will explore together what God has in store for us through art. Additional Materials Fee: $35
